(ContentDesk) August 17, 2005 -- Blu Leaf Clothing, the creation of DJ, formerly of Watts California, has a mandate to help kids in inner cities around the country. The company was founded in late 2003 with a clear mission to fully participate in the billions of dollars spent on urban clothing. Starting in its own backyard Blu Leaf began working with the Watts Willowbrook Boys and Girls club helping young teenagers learn the business of fashion. And also by sponsoring up and coming rapper Glasses Malone, also from Watts, who is currently the focus of a bidding war with several major record labels."It was always funny to me to see people who have never lived in the hood take urban fashion and make it corporate and not give one cent in return to where the energy comes from. My concept was to create a clothing company from the street and stay there. Just recently Blu Leaf was a sponsor at the Watts Summer Festival in Watts, CA.

On the first day of the festival we witnessed a teenager die from gunshot wounds to the neck and stomach. Many of the other sponsors pulled out, we remained and returned with full support. For us it is more than selling clothes it is about being a part of the community and helping to rebuild self esteem and character among a group who is in dire need of it.DJ came from the Imperial Courts Housing projects, better known as the PJ's. It was here in this notoriously dangerous environment that the desire to build businesses took root. DJ and three of his child hood friends swore to take what they learned in the streets and make it big someday and come and give back to their hood.

DJ remained true to his word and formed Blu Leaf Clothing, a company that will always have a true urban inspiration..

Boneing Up on Calcium By SurgeryConcerns.com Consultant, .The pictures are frightening. Porous, fragile bones. Broken hips and hunched backs. A lack of calcium may result in the bone thinning disease osteoporosis, which affects older American men and women. Osteoporosis is a condition of gradually weakening brittle bones.

As bones lose calcium and other minerals, they become more fragile and porous. Osteoporosis is the cause of more than 1.5 million bone fractures each year. These fractures often lead to permanent changes in lifestyle. Calcium is a key ingredient in maintaining good bone health and slowing bone loss later in life.Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body. It plays two important roles.

First, it is an essential part of bone structure. Second, bone calcium serves as a reservoir that releases calcium to the body fluids when there is a drop in blood calcium concentration. Calcium in body fluids plays several important roles including maintaining normal blood pressure and nerve transmission. The establishment of recommended intakes for calcium isdifficult because absorption varies not only with age, but alsowith a person's vitamin D status, the calcium content of thediet, and calcium binders in foods. In general, calciumrecommendations are high for young people and for those over age 51 because calcium absorption declines with age.The current recommendations are: * Adolescents 1,300 milligrams per day (the equivalent of 4 glasses of milk)* Women and men (19-50) 1,000 milligrams per day* Women and men (51 years and older) 1,200 milligrams per dayTo get enough calcium, it is recommended that you eat at least three servings of calcium-rich foods daily. Dairy foods provide the greatest amount of calcium and the nutrients that help with its absorption.

Calcium fortified foods like fruit juice, breads, cereals, and breakfast bars can also help meet calcium needs. The final option is a calcium supplement. For best absorption choose products containing calcium citrate or calcium caltrate. Avoid calcium supplements with dolomite or bone meal. They may contain very small amounts of lead and other metals. In addition, avoid calcium-containing antacids that contain aluminum and magnesium hydroxide, which cause calcium loss.

Remember to drink plenty of fluids with calcium supplements to avoid constipation. Consider however before reaching for that supplement that the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research recommends foods as a source of calcium in preference to a supplement. In addition to calcium intake, weight-bearing exercise like walking, jogging and ballroom dancing helps keeps bones dense. No matter what your age, making choices to keep your bones healthy is the right decision.*** GET PRIVATE A CONSULTATION ***Dr. Morse and the rest of our team of specialists are available for one on one consultations here:http://www.SurgeryConcerns.com/front/pages/consult/AOL members click here.

Roberts, received recognition from bereaved parents and school groups alike, as her work hit store shelves coast to coast. Not surprising for a bereaved mother who brought her work from manuscript to the speaking circuit and beyond in such a short time. Catherine's First Book Brian's World, "Can't You See What I See?" received rave reviews in the first weeks: Keith Ross Leckie of Tapestry Films writes?A moving, poignant story, a tremendous accomplishment. Java Chat says Brian's World is a powerful and compelling story ? I can't wait to read Ms.

Roberts next book. BeanStock Publishing?Honest, truthful and frank, chock-full of emotion, pain and humor. Reader Barbara Puscas says, "Brian's World is one of the best written true stories I have ever read. Once you pick it up you can't put it down until you've read the whole book." Detselig Enterprises, Ltd?Interesting and Insightful, once started the reader is compelled to read the rest of the story. Stoddard Press? An interesting story worth telling.

New York reader? It touches the heart, a must read for everyone from 12 to 99.With Love From Heaven is a sequel to Catherine's first publication, Brian's World, published December 1999. With honesty, courage and faith the author moves towards spiritual maturity and comes to accept her bereavement in a way which allows her to maintain her sanity and renew her commitment to life.Death of a loved one is difficult for all of us, but how does on cope after the loss of a child? With Love From Heaven is a true story of the authors struggle to survive the loss of her son. The memoir recounts the anguish of a sometimes crazy, often heart-wrenching search for the strength and peace of mind to go on living after the death of her youngest child. The narrative deals in a very straightforward way with the age-old topic of life after death. Again and again signs are asked for, and proof sought and given, for the continued existence in the spirit world of a teenager who always sees the world through rose-colored glasses.

In Brian's World, we see the world through the eyes of a troubled young man who beats the odds to survive after years of peer pressures, teacher abuse and drugs. Just when her youngest child had finally turned his life from one of drugs and the streets, to becoming a productive member of the community the unthinkable happens. How does one cope after the loss of their child? Where does a mother turn after the loss of her child? In the sequel With Love From Heaven the author seeks answers to the age old question, "Is there life after death?" With Love From Heaven takes us on a journey filled with honesty, courage, and faith as the author moves toward spiritual maturity as she comes to accept her bereavement. The author takes us with her as she goes from her religious background to psychics while trying to maintain her sanity and renew her commitment to life. You'll laugh and you'll cry with the author as she searches for a way to reconnect with her youngest child.

You'll be empowered to read With Love From Heaven from cover to cover without taking a breath. Catherine A. Roberts was born in upstate New York the eldest of ten children. While growing up her Uncle died very unexpectedly at thirty-two. Once the funeral was over her uncle's name wasn't mentioned, only one photo on her grandmothers' wall reminded Catherine that he did exist.

Many years later when her own youngest child passed away Catherine was determined to find answers to the many questions that had haunted her all her life, ?what does happen when you die; where do you go in death; what is it like there; can you still see your loved ones'. Her youngest child had asked those very questions many times when he was growing up. Now she was determined to find the answers. Catherine did find the answers she was looking for and many more as she went from her religious beliefs to psychics in search of the truth. Today she is at peace with her sons death, though her life will never be the same again, she is able to live it one day at a time.

After much research, many tears and as much heart ache as joy, Catherine consoles other bereaved parents as they too ask the age-old questions, "Is there life after death; will I ever have a life again after the death of my child; and why my child." In With Love From Heaven Catherine takes us on her journey as she searches for answers and renews her commitment to life.. Often, the patient has to come back in to get a touch-up, to fine-tune the vision correction."They get dirty all the time they get cloudy. Thats the most annoying thing about glasses&and forgetting them." Its the minor inconveniences that cause a lot of folks like John Agrillo to decide once and for all to go get LASIK surgery, where a laser is used to correct ones vision by permanently changing the shape of the cornea. For John, its even more important because his trifocals make it difficult for him to drive."We have to put these in the right spot to see the traffic," he reports.John is getting his LASIK surgery done in a room with very good climate control. Manhattan LASIK surgeon Dr.

Joseph Dello Russo says, "Weve learned that if you keep it at 40-50% relative humidity, and 68 to 73 degrees temperature, the atmosphere doesnt affect the result." But new research shows if the climate is off, the LASIK surgery might not have the best result. Its the first study to show that environmental factors like humidity and temperature can affect LASIK surgery results and result in a patient needing to come back for a touch-up procedure. The researchers reported that 15 and a half percent of their patients required a second procedure to fine tune their vision. The most significant factor was indoor humidity, but outdoor temperature and humidity two weeks before the surgery also played a role. More touch up surgeries were required during the humid summer months. The researchers also found that a 10 percent increase in treatment room humidity meant an additional nine out of every 100 patients required an enhancement procedure."The higher the humidity, the less the effect for the same amount of laser treatment.

The drier the cornea, the laser will have more effect," advises Dr Joseph Dello Russo.Additional moisture in the air may decrease the laser energy absorbed by the cornea. Also, some patients corneas may become more hydrated before the procedure, making it more difficult for the laser to remove tissue. While temperature and humidity are important factors according to this study in terms of who has to get at touch up procedure done, the ability of each individual to heal is the most important factor according to the surgeon with whom we spoke.Dr Joseph Dello Russo reports only a 3-5 percent touch up rate, which is lower than the studys findings. Thats good news for john, who sunglasses aside, is now going to be specs-free.Dr Joseph Dello RussoDello Russo Laser Visionhttp://www.dellorussolaservision.comNew Jersey1 North Washington AvenueBergenfield, New Jersey 07621Ph 201-384-7333Manhattan1755 York Ave. (at 92nd St.)New York, New York 10128Ph 212-722-9200Brooklyn100 Livingston St.Brooklyn, New York 11201Ph 800-EYE-CARE.

Longevity interests a lot of people who aren't ready to give up their lives, just yet, and who look to healthy alternatives to culturally defined eating patterns and "health care."

The benefits of drinking wine have been touted for a while and are thought, by some, to be the reason why the French can get away with eating a high fat diet while enjoying a low rate of coronary disease.

A few years ago, a study by French research team also found that men who regularly drank at least two glasses of wine daily were 50 percent less likely than non-drinkers to suffer a second heart attack.

Previous studies with yeast, a small species of worm, and fruit flies have shown that resveratrol -- a polyphenol antioxidant found in grapes, especially red grapes, and particularly pinot noir grapes which are grown in northern latitudes and used in wines coming from New York, Washington, and Oregon -- is a life-extending compound.

In a new study from Italy, resveratrol has been used to increase the life span of a short-lived breed of tropical fish by more than 50%. Not only did fish given resveratrol in their food live longer than the control group, they stayed livelier as they aged and displayed better memory in stimulus/response tests. And the neurons in their brains didn't decay as quickly when they died and were dissected.

Resveratrol, an organic compound contained in the skins of grapes that protects them from disease, is extracted from grapes by the wine making process. The wine becomes a preservative for the resveratrol and prevents its oxidation.

That's why drinking grape juice or eating raisins doesn't have the same effect; the resveratrol has neither been extracted nor preserved. It's also been shown that resveratrol in food supplements oxidizes upon exposure to air and loses its effectiveness.

Red wine may truly be a "wondrous drug!"

Other studies have shown that wine, especially red wine, can help prevent colds, increase the levels of HDL (good) cholesterol, lower the risk of Alzheimer's, reduce the size and number of fat cells in the body, reduce the risk of prostate cancer, and has anti-inflammatory properties to boot.

Drug companies are trying to copy resveratrol, but might not be able to preserve it's health-preserving benefits.

Besides, resveratrol is freely available in red wine and not patentable as such.

Aviator sunglasses are characterized by their oval shaped lenses that narrow towards the bridge of the nose. Aviators are one of the oldest designs of sunglasses and still the most commonly preferred all over the world. When it comes to sunglasses, aviators are considered classics.

Aviator sunglasses were designed in 1936 for military use. The seemingly humble pair of aviator sunglasses was, in fact, useful gear for the armies in the Second World War.

Since then, they have evolved greatly and contemporary aviator sunglasses are trendier and sleeker, with additional features like photo-chromatic lenses and gradient lenses.

Aviators are androgynous, meaning that both men and women can wear them. They are usually preferred in black and brown tinged lenses, but green, blue, gray, and violet lenses are also quite popular. They also come in a variety of frames, with gold plated frames being the most favored. The frame of these glasses is very lightweight and thin so as not to add to the overall weight.

Plastic frames are less expensive but do not look as dynamic. Aviator sunglasses may have one or two bridges over the nose to connect the two oval lenses.

Lenses of aviator sunglasses can be made of polycarbonate plastic or glass. Plastic reduces the weight of the lens, but glass is more scratch-resistant. The lenses not only block most of the sunrays from entering and harming the cornea, but they also block out harmful ultraviolet radiation.

Though the primary objective of the aviator sunglasses was something altogether different, today they are used mostly as a fashion accessory. Pop stars and movie stars throughout the ages have popularized aviator sunglasses. They are ideal for blocking out the sun on beaches, golf courses, and summer picnics. A good pair of aviator sunglasses does not create any optical distortion and provide healthy protection for eyes from intensely bright sunlight.

Aviator sunglasses generally cost upwards from $50 and the cost may go up to $100 or more depending on the brand manufacturing them.

Ray-Ban, Oakley, Dior, and all other popular brands have their own designs of aviator sunglasses. .

For many people wearing glasses is a signal that you are somehow different from everyone else. The other kids at school drill this into your head as child. Therefore, when the chance to get rid of glasses forever was introduced, the surgery, known as the LASIK procedure was embraced with open arms. Unfortunately, the price of the surgery kept it out of reach for some people. Thankfully, the price is going down and interest is being renewed.

1- Before jumping into a LASIK procedure, it is important to know what to expect and how to pick the doctor who will perform the surgery for you. When you visit you eye care professional to discuss if this option is right for you, there will be some tests that need to be completed. These tests will let the doctor know if you are a candidate for the LASIK procedure and, if you are, how much tissue needs to be removed from your cornea to improve your vision.

2- When you enter the room where your procedure will take place you will see a recliner type chair. This is where you will be sitting for the surgery, so get comfortable. There will also be a large machine, with which the surgeon will perform the surgery.

This machine might look clumsy, but it is a precision piece of equipment.

3- The first thing that will happen is your eye will get a washed out with a numbing solution. The lid will then be held in an open position with special clamps to prevent blinking. Once the numbing solution has started to work, the surgeon will use the machines magnifying lens and a scalpel to cut a flap-like incision in the cornea.

4- The incision will allow the laser access to the tissues below the cornea that need to be removed. The tests that were performed during your initial visit to the eye doctor determined how much of this tissue was to be removed.

The machine that is in the room houses the laser and is attached to a computer.

5- The laser works based on pulses, when enough tissue is removed, the computer tells the laser to shut off. The surgeon then closes the flap of the cornea. That's it; your LASIK procedure is complete!

6- The surgeon does not use any sutures to close the incision on the cornea, instead a patch will be placed over the eye for protection during the healing process. You will end up looking like a pirate, but the patch will protect the cornea from the scratches and bumps of everyday life.

7- Most LASIK procedure patients return to work with in a couple of days and to normal everyday activities gradually over a couple of weeks. Be prepared to have blurry vision and sensitivity to light. These will both pass, and your vision will be as clear as it was with glasses or better. .
